White House Overreach with Transgenders & Public Restrooms; Devil’s Advocate on Allman Report

By Gentry W. Trotter –  @gentrytrotter on tweeter
There is a possibility that I missed a few news report or so, on the U.S. Justice Department and its push to give Transgender people, part of the LGBT community “further” questionable civil rights by giving them equal access to traditional women public restrooms.
I’ve expressed a Devil’s Advocate position on my new segment on the Allman Report, (KDNL ABC-TV30), in St. Louis, Missouri on Wednesday, which I believe host Jamie Allman to be a staunch fiscal conservative, but a social moderate on some issues of the day. There are some issues that shouldn’t be placed under the same umbrella of civil rights, not that he did, but the Obama administration’s Justice Department has.  I rarely only need 1:30 (90 seconds) to express my opinion on any issue, and in the future, I’m going to try and convince the Allman Report of that. If not many of us, including myself have the habit of repeating ourselves, or in my case sounding overly stupid, because when I’m done, I should just end the conversation – point made.  By the way the Devil’s Advocate is a position I’m taking in absence of available opposing viewpoints, whether I believe them or not, they need to be addressed, etc.
But in reality, I’m strongly opposed to men or women using each other’s public restrooms, call me old fashioned or out-of-touch — It’s psychological, and my upbringing rebelling.  I’m not going to use that defense about some “freak” men potentially posing as Transgenders to gain access for sexual purposes; not sure that’s an escalating criminal act taking place around this nation, so far.
But in public restrooms, women and men deserve our privacy. I continue to complain when a woman comes into my men’s dressing area in a department store, supposedly to help her husband with alterations.  For one major reason, most women would rebel if a male walked into their dressing room to help the tailor figure out his spouse’s or girl pal’s alternations.  I think these “gender marked” public restrooms are the last “absolute” place for quiet and manhood; or woman respectability – privacy.  I confess and that’s what America is all about — the right to speak our minds – however broad or however narrowly focused; as long as in many cases our personal views, wouldn’t become legislative or executive order policies.  In many cases these “personal views” have become a behavior pattern within the current president’s administration.
I firmly believe that the LGBT community deserves equal rights and protection under the current laws or what is morally correct in absence of a law not on the books; that also protects all minorities (women included) – equal pay, no job discrimination, equal access to housing, no public ridicule and a right to same-sex marriage, etc. Even though, I don’t personally believe in marriage between anyone
 – another story for another debate.
As a matter of fact, I’m told that many Transgenders over the years have actually gone to women’s restrooms with their biological birth organs, at night clubs and even some sporting events and for the most part, no one noticed or no one cared.
Wrap-Up: My further concern is using a public restroom when it involves children present and using a very personal private moment as a civil rights moment, has gotten out of hand.  And the Obama administration and the political right have decided to use this as a “wedge” issue for local, state and national election purposes when there are still so many more critical issues facing minorities and Americans, as a population.
Protection of Religious Liberty – where did that come from?  Friends on the right nationally, and especially in Missouri were nuts with this religious liberty rights bull. For years, florists, churches, reception halls, bakers, and even candle stick makers have had the right for whatever reason, including their religious convictions or stupidity not to take business from the LGBT community and still in some tiny corners of America from some of us “uppity” or “aggressive” blacks. Some of us are still fighting against lack of culturally and diversity trained white clerks in retail businesses, who wish to determine our behavior characteristics, etc.
At my age, I’m still trying to teach some of these “culturally” disadvantaged white people, not to feel threatened by my outgoing personality and accept me as an individual, as I would do the same without any hairs standing up on my back.  Meanwhile, I’ll boycott their business and spend my dollars elsewhere, as a point of green power. But if it’s based on racial hate, then we’ve got some big problem solving to do.
And that’s also my personal point, I’m still fighting for my “own” civil rights in private and public places, and with equal access and treatment professionally speaking as well.  As a black male, mixing of the opposite sexes in public restrooms is not right and not my issue per say, unless that LGBT community member had had a biological change in their physical being, at that point “she” or “he” should be allowed in the same public restroom, respectively.  Sexual preference is one thing, by itself, it shouldn’t be a pass to enter a public restroom with the opposite sex.
(Please overlook any typos, thank you).
